Have you ever thought why ........ 1 means "one", and 2 means "two"?
The roman numerals are easy to understand but what was the logic behind the phonecian numbers?
It's all about angles !
It's the number of angles.
If one writes the numbers down (see below) on a piece of paper in their older forms, one quickly sees why.
I have marked the angles with "o"s.
No 1 has one angle.
No 2 has two angles.
No 3 has three angles.
etc.
and "O" has no angles

I call BS on this.
cite your sources.
the upturned end of the 5, the 'foot' at the bottom of the 7, and the extra downward turn at the end of the 9 are a little hard to buy.
Im pretty sure the mayans were the first group to come up with the idea of "0" or nothingness.
Also, the extra serifs on the 5, 9, and 7 make it seem a little ridiculous.
Go ahead and delete this entire BS post... this isn't even close to the Phoenician numeral system. Whoever came up with this needs to get a jub.
The Phoenician numeral system uses all vertical strokes for numbers one through nine. Only at ten and above do they use any sort of symbol. We use Arabic numerals you fucking idiot.
Why is 0 the only number drawn using curves? If 0 was drawn like the other numbers it would have at least 4 angles (depending on how many extra serifs are added to it).
Thats nothing like the phoenician numeral system. And as the others said, the 0, 5, 7 and 9 make it even hard to believe.
Pwnt.

Why are all of you people trying to discredit the theory? It is very logical, but the only number I disagree with is the 7. The serif should not be at the bottom, but on the arm at the top crossing it to make the extra 2 angles. As for the person who asked why the 0 was drawn with curves and not lines, it is because it represents no angles. If your mind can't grasp that, then don't waste your time commenting.
