Potassium Nitrate does not work well in pipe bombs or bottles because it is
an oxidizing reaction, that means that it needs air to react.


The most popular combination of KNO3 is a proportion of it and powdered
sugar. It can be used for other things such as stabilizing Ammonium Nitrate
but its not practical when simpler, cheaper chemicals work just as well.

You can try your own combinations of it and sugar with the following
concepts in mind. The more KNO3 in the mixture, the faster it burns. Rocket
Fuel and explosives need a faster burning mixture. Smoke bombs work on very
slow burning mixtures. A hear a 3:1 ratio (sugar:KNO3) is a good smoke bomb
mixture but I have always used 1:1 or better. 4:6 makes a good rocket fuel.

Now that you have an idea of how the mixtures work you can proceed with the
making. As a beginner you should start with small batches. You must cook it,
I suggest the use of an electric stove, NEVER a propane, alcohol, gas, etc.
type burner! Two reasons, bringing the mixture near fire when your cooking it
can cause it to go off and also, flame burners are much too hot. On the
electric stove, cook it on LOW while your a beginner, later you can move it
up to MEDIUM. NEVER, EVER, EVER, PUT IT ON ANY SETTING HIGHER THAN MEDIUM!!
It can, and WILL ignite in your house!

This advice is curtosy of THE ANARCHIST who had a large batch go off in his
house, it was not a pretty sight. The whole house was loaded with smoke, the
entire stove area of the kitchen was charred. Fortunately he could clean up
before his parents got home, you may not be so lucky.

While cooking your formula, make sure you keep stiring, not constantly
but just make sure your there the whole time. The whole mixture will
turn into a liquid that will resemble molassas. (brown of coarse). Someone
once told me it was supposed to be a white mush, but I have never seen one
that color. If yours does end up white instead of brown, don't be alarmed, its
the same stuff. When the substance is sufficiently molten you can pour it
into whatever you plan to use as your container. A large cardboard tube
works well for smoke bombs. (e.g. a toilet paper tube). Rockets require
more work in the way of containment. Its all up to you.

While the mixture is still molten place some wooden matches in it to
serve as fuses. A cigarette works good too for a delay.

1. Thermite - This is a very usefull powdered substance. This powder can give
up to 2200C (half the heat of an ATOM bomb). It can be used to
melt through pretty much anything. Things such as fortress fones
(pay phones) or common locks are no match for thermite, which is
the reason it is used by professional thieves so extensively!!

A. Ingredients.....

1. 10 grams of powdered aluminum
2. 10 grams of iron oxide (rust)
3. Magnesium Strip

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Basically just mix the two substances together, until as homogenous
as possible.
2. Can be made in larger/smaller amounts as long as ratio of 50/50 is
kept.

C. Igniting.....

1. Lit with a magnesium strip.

** Thermite is perfect for getting into things that have locks....

2. Molotov Bomb - Also reffered to as a cocktail bomb, is a very simple yet
effective explosive. Is used ALOT in guerilla warfare or
common rebellions. Will produce a good amount of fire!!!

A. Ingredients.....
-----------
1. Gasoline
2. Bottle

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Fill one bottle 3/4 full of gasoline.
2. Insert a gasoline soaked rag into the bottle (jam the top of the
bottle with it). Be sure to leave about 15 inches of excess rag to
light.
3. Light and toss.

C. Igniting.....
--------
1. Any lighter or match will light gasoline.

** This was used by Russians and later adapted by the French in the second
world war against German tanks. they would open the hatch, light the rag and
toss it in!! Gasoline can be replaced with just about any flammable!!!

3. Tennis Ball Grenades - A small impact grenade.

A. Ingredients.....
-----------
1. Tennis Balls
2. Sandpaper
3. LOTS of match heads
4. Blackpowder or Gunpowder reccomended
5. Duct Tape

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Cut a small square hole in a tennis ball (about 5cm sides)
2. Coat the side of the inside of the ball with sand paper.
3. Fill the ball with match heads (preferrably wooden ones).
4. Slide in some more sand paper (slowly)
5. Pour in gun or black powder.
6. Will ignite on impact!!!

C. Ignition......

1. Will ignite on impact.

** Are great when being chased, whipping directly at your pursuiter is a GREAT
way to "deviate" him from his tracks!!!

4. Smoke Bomb #1 - Generate a GREAT amount of smoke!!!

A. Ingredients.....
-----------
1. 6 grams of Zinc Powder
2. 1 gram of Sulphur Powder

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Just mix the two parts together.
2. Can be made in different quantities as long as the 6 to 1 ratio is
kept.

C. Ignition.....
--------
1. Insert a RED hot wire, and it should start producing smoke!!!

** Perfect for a "fire" at school or to make your own smoke bombs.

5. Smoke Bomb #5 - Generate EVEN MORE smoke!!!

A. Ingredients.....
-----------
1. Potassium Nitrate
2. Icing Sugar

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Grind up both until they are minute specks.
2. Mix together with one part Potassium Nitrate and four parts Icing
Sugar.

C. Ignition.....
--------
1. Use any normal fuse.

** Perfect for schools.....

6. Makeshift Delay Wick - Perfect for anything with a wick!

A. Ingredients.....
-----------
1. Wick
2. Any explosive
3. A cigarette

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Cut the wick in half.
2. Cut the filter off of the cigarette.
3. Insert one of the wicks into the front of the cigarette.
4. Insert the other into the cigarette (this wick should be attached to
the explosive)
5. Should look like.....

1. Light the first wick and the flame will eventually get to explosive.

** If you don't know how this delay wick works then (to put it bluntly) you're
stupid but for you morons here's how it works. When you light the first wick,
it will burn up to the cigarette.....which will be lit. The flame on the
cigarette will reach the end of the cigarette and light the second wick (which
should be about a centimeter into the cigarette) and which in turn will light
the explosive. So as you can see, this is a small, cheap and long delay wick.
The delay can be adjusted by the size of the cigarette. Sometimes if there is
no wind the cigarette will not light. But I have yet to see this happen.

7. Flamethrower Gas - HIGHLY flammable

A. Ingredients.....

1. Calcium Carbide
2. Water

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Mix the two together!!!
2. Will form acetylene (VERY flammable, used for blowtorches)

C. Ignition.....
--------
1. Just mix!!!

** This can be very valuable, for instance, try having a lit match over the
concoction (step back)!!!

8. Napalm - Thickened...powered up....gasoline!!!

A. Ingredients.....
-----------
1. Unleaded Gasoline
2. Polystyrine (also known as styrofoam)

B. Procedure.....
---------
1. Mix the two together until the gas is saturated (won't take anymore)
2. Leave it for 5 minutes and MAKE SURE it won't take anymore, for
sometimes after sitting there for a bit, it takes more.

C. Ignition.....
--------
1. Pour and light!!!

** This is a very usefull chemical, for it burns like a bitch!!! But the smoke
and gas that it releases are poisonous, so be carefull!!!

SMOKE FORMULAS

Smokes are used mainly for screening purposes, so with this in mind this
file will concern itself mainly with white smoke. Smokes are mists or part-
icles suspended in the air. They remain suspended there until through envir-
omental conditions or static charge, they begin to attract each other or are
dispersed.
There are three ways to produce smokes: 1) Vaporizing oil, 2) Spraying a
reactive chemical in the air, 3) Burning a pyrotechnic mixture that releases
a smoke forming chemical.
1) When oil is used to make smoke the oil is sprayed into a device that heats
it up in a flash. The resulting oil vapor is exhausted to the air and when it
cools down it condenses into a mist. Remember the kerosene or propane fueled
insect fogger? This works on the same principal.
2) Certain chemicals react with the water in the air to produce a fog. As an
example there are Titanium Tetrachloride, Tin Tetrachloride, Chlorosulfonic
Acid, and Silicon Tetrachloride.
Perhaps the easiest to secure of these is titanium tetrachloride. If these
chemicals are used, keep in mind that they are corrosive so any spraying
equipment must be constructed of stainless steel or suitable material. You
can use titanium tet. by simply taping a small explosive charge onto a
bottle of the stuff. Just watch out for the glass fragments. Titanium tet.
usually comes in a sealed bottle that if opened cannot be sealed again.
3) Pyrotechnic formulas are made that either through a chemical reaction form
a smoke producing chemical or the heat released from burning the mixture
vaporizes a smoke producing chemical.
The first type of mixture forms chemicals such as aluminum chloride, zinc
chloride, zinc oxide, or sulfur dioxide. The second type of mixture uses
chemicals such as ammonium chloride, napthalene, or anthracene which are
vaporized without decomposition. When using mixtures containing a hydrocarbon
such as napthalene, care must be taken that the hot vapor does not catch fire
when it hits the open air. This will cause the amount of smoke to decrease
or cease alltogether. For this reason a chemical that produces carbon dioxide
when heated is added to the mixture. Following are some formulas of both
type 1 and 2. Also volatile chemicals such as napthalene oe hexachloroethane
can sublimate from these mixtures so they must be sealed airtight.


ALL FORMULAS BY WEIGHT

Type 1 formulas: Potassium Chlorate 20 - 30%
Ammonium Chloride 50%
Napthalene 20%
Charcoal 0 - 10%
Usually it is not safe to use an ammonium salt and a chlorate together in a
mixture but in this case this mixture is usually pretty stable with a storage
life of about 10 years if kept dry. If there is a problem with flaming when
this formula is used, decrease the ammonium chloride by about 5% and add
5% sodium bicarbonate.

Potassium Chlorate 60%
Lactose 20%
Ammonium Chloride 20%
This is a fairly good formula but may not give as much as smoke as the first.

Potassium Nitrate 60%
Sugar 40%
Combine these 2 chemicals in a small amount of boiling water. Pour the mix
out onto a sheet of plastic and while it dries, start breaking it into small
pieces. When it is dry, grind it into a powder in a non-sparking mortar and
pestle. Add to it 80% by weight of ammonium chloride. I have had some success
with this mix. You can decrease the amount of chloride for better burning.

Type 2 formulas: Sulfur 55%
Potassium Nitrate 40%
Fine Charcoal 5%
Mix these chemicals together well and be sure the mixture is free of sulfur
chunks. This is slow burning and the smoke consists of sulfur trioxide,
sulfur dioxide and vaporized sulfur.


Hexachloroethane 45%
Zinc Oxide 45%
Fine Aluminum 10%
This mixture was used in the american armed forces and is known as HC. A
charge with a weight of about 8 oz. can produce over 100,000 cu. ft. of a
dense gray white smoke. If the aluminum is not a fine powder it will be
almost impossible to ignite.

Hexachloroethane 53%
Zinc Dust 44%
Magnesium Oxide 3%
This formula is similar to HC. The smoke consists of zinc chloride.

Hexachloroethane 45%
Zinc Oxide 45%
Calcium Silicide 10%
This is an interesting formula. In addition to producing a zinc chloride
smoke, it also forms silicon tetrachloride which reacts with moisture in the
air to produce silicic acid which is a smoke agent in itself.

Hexachloroethane 40 - 45%
Zinc Oxide 20 - 40%
Ammonium Perchlorate 35 - 10%
Powdered Charcoal 5%
This is a newer formula and is mixed after being dampened with a 5% PVC
solution (use PVC pipe primer as a solvent). The rate of burning depends on
the amount of ammonium perchlorate. The smoke consists of ammonium chloride,
and zinc chloride.

Magnesium Powder 8%
Red Phosphorous 51%
Manganese Dioxide 35%
Zinc Oxide 3%
Linseed Oil 3%
This formula which contains red phosphorous is very good as phosphorous is
the best masking smoke agent. Red phosphorous is very easily ignited so mix
this chemical when dampened with a small amount of alcohol. It produces a
complex smoke of phosphorous anhydride which reacts with moisture in the air.


These formulas are usually contained in a stout cardboard cylinder which has
a number of vent holes. A tube with a 1" I.D. 5" long and 1/4'walls is a
good starting point for any of these formulas. Holes can be drilled in the
sides of the tube then covered over with tape. A smoke pot is a large can
that contains at least 2 lbs. of a smoke mixture. These can put out over
500,000 cu. ft. of smoke.
Although the above mixtures are not outright poisonous, do not breathe in
too much of the smoke if possible. Do not use these indoors and be careful of
accidental fires the smoke bombs can cause.

The Real Smoke Grenade

The smoke grenade, unlike the smoke bomb, will produce an instantanious cloud of smoke. I find this better than having to light a smoke bomb and then wait for it to fill an area. The only disadvantage of this is that a smoke grenade is usually made only to fill a small area. Of course it can be made bigger
but with that much gunpowder---you had better be able to run fast !

Only a few modifications are needed to change a smoke bomb (see Classic Smoke Bomb phile) into a smoke grenade....

1. The canister used should be smaller--about 4oz (after you've tried a few
times you can make 'em bigger, the bigger the better I always say) also
more exhaust ports are needed--at least 12 make sure their spaced out
evenly around the can.

2. If a rope type fuse is used then it is a good idea to tape some matches
around the end of the fuse--this way all that is needed to light it is a
strike against a rough surface.

3. To send the smoke powder flying a small explosive charge is needed the size
of the charge depends on how you intend to use the grenade-- if it's gonna
be close to you the a small charge--if you want to send the shrapnel flying
then a bigger charge to make this diffusion charge put some gunpowder onto
a small piece of thin cloth (about a 3 inch square) fold up the corners to
form a little sack, now insert the fuse into the sack and tie it off with
a piece of string.

4. Now the canister can be filled and the diffusion charge is placed in the
middle of the powder--the canister is then capped and sealed.


Another version of this is to use a cloth bag instead of a canister. This would be like the ninjas use in those cut-rate movies on Saturday mornings. A big burst of smoke then they're gone.... Using a bag would eliminate exhaust ports but it would still have to be lined with a plastic bag. Make this just like the smoke bomb with the above revisions.

How to make black, white, yello, res and green smoke screens. An interestiong aspect of explosives is the extra ingredients which can be
added to give the explosion characteristics it would not normally have. A smoke bomb is like this, in sense that it is not only useful to create confusion and chaos, but also for smoking persons out of an enclosed area, as well as signaling.
